Colca Canyon 2 days/1 night

Day 1:

arequipa-peru-atractivos-arequipa-1Leaving the city of Arequipa at 7.30am we travel towards the town of Chivay, the capital of the province of Caylloma. From here we can enjoy the views of the majestic volcanoes of El Misti, El Chachani and Pichu Pichu. Arriving at the national reserve Cañahuas Pampas we will stop to observe the vicunas (the most important camel of the Americas) in their natural habitat. At this point we are at 3,400m above sea level.
Travelling on to the opposite side of the reserve we find the Andean village of "Pata Wasi" (meaning high home) where we can view interesting rock formations and the volcanoes of El Misti and El Chacani. From here we travel to Sumbay at 3,800m where we enjoy a "mate de Coca" or herbal tea made from coca leaves to combat the effects of altitude sickness.
Continuing on through the "Tocra" zone above 4,500m we can take in the views of the plateau andlagoons, home to flamencos and guanacos. At the highest point in our tour, 4,820m above sea level "Pata Pampa" (meaning high

earth) we can see Ampato volcanoes, Sabancaya, the Hualca Hualca, Mismi (where the Amazon River is born) and the mountain range of the Chila.
Approaching the town of Chivay at 3,651m we can enjoy the views and the multi colored terraces of the valley before checking into to our respective hotels and enjoying lunch. (Cost of lunch is not included in this tour).
At 3.30pm we have the option to walk to the indigenous town of Coporaque, passed its beautiful plaza and up the hill to the ruins of San Antonio to visit the old cemetery and enjoy the views of the terraces of the canyon, a walk of approximately 90 minutes. On our return to Chivay we can then visit the natural thermal baths of "La Calera" to relax surrounded by the mountain range before retiring to our hotels for the night.

Day 2:

arequipa-peru-canyon-colca-mirador-colcaAfter an early breakfast at 6.00am we head to the viewpoint of the "Cruz del Cóndor", arriving at approximately 8.00am. After taking photos of the spectacular flights of the Condor our guide takes us on a short walk (1 hour) along the edge of the canyon, before making the return trip to Chivay via the traditional town of Pinchollo and the lookout of "Antahuilque", where we can see wonderful terraces 1,500 years old constructed by the "Collaguas" culture, prior to the Inca culture. We will stop in the lookout of Choquetico to see the tombs in the mountain side.
Continuing to the town of Maca which experienced an earthquake in 1991 and the church of the town of Yanque, considered most beautiful of the Valley.


Returning to Chivay we have lunch in a local restaurant before returning to the city of Arequipa at approximately 5.30pm. (Lunch is not included in this tour). THIS CONCLUDES OUR SERVICE.
