Lares Trek - Machupicchu 4days/3nights

A visit to the valley of Lares brings you into contact with the Andean way of life reminiscent of times gone by. Valleys nestled high in the mountains, villagers carry on traditions passed on by their ancestors in textiles and handicrafts. This area is rich in diversity of flora and fauna, a truly charming region.

Day 1. - Cusco - Lares - Wacawasi:

lares-trek-hotel-lares-banios-termales-lares-1Leaving Cusco in the early morning via transport, we travel through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, an incredibly rich area of Peru not only for it's significance in agriculture, archaeological sites and artistic endeavors, but for its importance to the Incan empire and culture. Traveling through the Sacred Valley to the province of Granary at 2,940m we climb steeply to the high pass of Huaca at almost 4,400m before making our decent into the valley and township of Lares at 3,250m, approximately 5 hours travel time. The thermal baths at Lares are an ideal resting place, each pool varying in temperature between 28° and 34° and offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. After lunch we begin our 3 hour trek to our campsite at Huaca Wasi, 3,600m.

Day 2. - Wacawasi - Epsaycochalares-trek-hotel-lares-banios-termales-lares-2

The most difficult day in terms of altitude as we reach the highest pass at Ipsay 4,400m, after approximately 4 hours of hiking, where it is possible to observe local communities that continue to this day living according to tradition and Andean customs. Traditional farming methods are practiced and the textiles and clothing are very colorful which is typical of the Lares area. From here we begin our decent to the community of Patacancha, a cold place at 3,800m where we will make camp for the night. Trekking time is approximately 7 hours.

Day 3. - Epsaycocha- Pumamarka- Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes:

lares-trek-hotel-lares-banios-termales-lares-4Continuing our decent from Patacancha we pass through the communities of Willoq (3,600m), Pumamarca (3,400m) and others, displaying the customs and traditions taught by our ancestors in the empire of Tahuantinsuyo. After approximately 4 hours trekking we arrive at Ollantaytambo (2,850m) a place of great historical and cultural significance, the archaeological ruins and the township are beautiful, with a warm climate throughout the day but quite cold at night. From here we take the train to the township of Aguas Calientes at 2,505m and spend the night in hotel accommodation.

Day 4. - Aguas Calientes - Machupicchulares-trek-hotel-lares-banios-termales-lares-5

After an early morning breakfast, the bus takes us to the archaeological site of Machupicchu at 2,400m, nestled in the cloud forest or yunga, surrounded by the majestic river of Willcamayu. The early start to the day gives us time to take a professional guided tour of the site before the influx of day trippers arrive by train. There is free time to explore the site before returning by bus to Aguas Calientes and taking the train to Cusco in the evening. Meals included: B/L/D
