Description:
The tour begins at 2pm where you will have the opportunity to discover the mysteries of the old capital of the Incan empire.
The old temple of the Sun known as Qoricancha was the greatest temple of the empire of the Incas and to this day the fine architecture remains intact, beside which was constructed the Church of Santo Domingo by the Spanish. Plaza de Armas surrounded by colonial buildings and churches resting on top of Incan foundations, under lights at night it seems truly magical.
The Cathedral constructed on an Incan palace shows the extravagance of European and Incan art; its' architecture, paintings, carvings, ceramics, and especially the altar to the patron of the city Señor de los Temblores. Next we climb above the city to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman constructed with gigantic stones that demonstrates the prowess of the architects. The function of Sacsayhuaman was religious in nature, nevertheless the conquerors considered it as a military stronghold due to its' location and the characteristics of the construction, for example the inner doors and towers. To this day the famous Inti Raymi festival (Celebration of the Sun) takes place here at Sacsayhuaman on the 24th June each year, this is the most important festival of the city of Cusco.
Quenqo represents the Andean cosmos; the concept of three worlds, each one represented by a sacred animal (cóndor, puma and serpent). Puca Pucara was a military fort in this time with a strategic location that controlled the migration of people from the Amazonian region into the sacred city and survey the temple of the water. Tambomachay known as the temple of the water fulfilled religious ties to water and the regeneration of the Earth. To traditional cusqueñans these waters are a well-known source of eternal youth.
