Cusco’s imperial city not only is beautiful for architectural remains of Incas, or by fusion that evidencing their buildings in city center. But also is a place of natural beauty that not many tourists have pleasure of meeting, such as the circuit of four lagoons.
This circuit is ideal for those who love adventure, during this tour is observed beautiful landscapes of the area, including flora and fauna.
To reach this area is traveled 107 Km south from Cusco, approximately two hours by car to reach locality from Pomacanchi, from where you start the journey to the other three remaining lagoon, which can make the trip by car or use mountain bikes.
The location of these lagoons are in the upper Vilcanota River in order following: Pomancanchi (first lagoon), Acopia (second lagoon), Asnaqocha (third lagoon) and Pampamarca (fourth lagoon).
Pomancanchi: Is first lagoon to begin the circuit and characterized by a depth of 140 meters, we found in surroundings natural grasses as “totora” and plants utilized for medicinal use as “mirmi”. In fauna’s case stands a variety of fish such as trout, mackerel, huitas, ccarachis, ch’iñis and tents, which cover food in zone, continuing the circuit leads to second lagoon.
Acopia: This presents an extension lesser and is located very close to the town that carries the same name. Its flora and fauna are of the same species found in the lagoon first name Pomancanchi, and then afterwards we come to third lagoon.
Asnaqocha: Its name comes from Quechua word that meaning “lagoon smelly” and presents little diversity of flora and fauna, which is caudate by the growing abundant algae exposed to sunlight. To continuations we get to the last lagoon in the circuit.
Pampamarca: This is the fourth and final lagoon of circuit ,is 3750 meters., To its surroundings has greater diversity of wildlife as parihuanas and ducks, this is due to the large amount of cattails characteristic of area, suitable for sports like fishing, inevitable activity as part of the circuit.
It is certainly one of the most beautiful tours in Cusco can be performed.
